This implement, manufactured by Earth & Turf company from PA and sold through the BCS America dealer network, is a great option for reducing the labor needed to spread compost on your garden beds! This spreader features a 30” spreading width, galvanized side-panels and a heavy-duty rubber conveyor belt. The unit has 6-inch ground clearance and the distance between the spreader wheels is 36”, so it can effectively straddle raised beds if they are not built too high (5” - 6” maximum bed height).
Typical of all the tools we carry from R2 Rinaldi, this is a very well-built implement. This seeder / spreader is designed for seeding lawns, cover-crop, or other full-width dense seeding operations OR it can be used as a drop-spreader of granulated fertilizer or similar material. It features an expanded-mesh roller in the rear, which helps press the seed / fertilizer into the soil a bit and also drives the agitator shaft in the hopper via a no-slippage roller chain.
This system is based on the American-made Hoss “deluxe” seeders, which feature a large steel drive wheel and “disc”-style openers – great for not plugging up when there is some fibrous organic matter (cover crop, vegetable residue) present in the tilled soil (yes, the soil must be worked before using this type of seeder…this is NOT a “no-till” seeder!). While not quite as precise as the Korean Jang seeders, these are MUCH more adaptable to a full range of seed sizes, and MUCH more affordable.
The Korean-made JANG JP series seeders are widely recognized by small-scale market gardeners as “the best bang for the buck” in precision seeders for small seeds. The most popular & versatile configuration is just the JP-1 single-row hand-pushed unit (which we do not sell, but plenty of places online do…they cost about \$400, plus seed “rollers”), BUT, if you have an application where you have enough closely-spaced multi-row plantings, we offer the “multi-row” versions of the JANG JP type seeders, specially adapted by us to pull behind our walk-behind tractors.
After YEARS of requests from our customers, we FINALLY found a no-till seed drill that would attach to one of our walk-behind tractors! Manufactured by the Eden Equipment company of South Africa, this robust one-row unit will drill large seeds (corn, beans, peas, large sunflowers, etc.) into un-tilled soil and cover crop residue. Penetration into the soil is facilitated by a 5/8”-wide steel ripper shank that has a seed drop-tube following behind it.
The Italian-made Wizard brand Vacuum-seeders are virtually 100% accurate, and will handle ANY seed size when equipped with the appropriate seed plate. For those looking for the ULTIMATE in precision seeding: Look no further.
The engineer who started this company used to work for “Mater-Macc®”, which is an Italian company widely recognized for high-accuracy vacuum seeders for large 4-wheel tractors. This fellow decided to offer the same technology to smaller-scale growers by offering more affordable units to fit smaller 4-wheel tractors and walk-behind tractors.
This heavy-duty PTO powered spreader mounts to a walk-behind tractor in the Front-PTO mode and has a centrifugal rotary spreader below the hopper (much like the spreader on the back of a salt-spreading truck for roadways). It is designed to handle granulated fertilizer, lime, salt, sand or any such dry material.
Spreading coverage is adjustable in width by adjusting a deflector on either side of the rotor which allows coverage of as little as 30 inches width and as much as 12 feet (there is a permanent deflector behind the rotor which keeps material from being thrown back on the underside of the tractor and the operator).
