Aldo Biagioli Bedshaper
Bedshaper with Disk Hillers,
tool carrier & drawbar
This tool has shank-mounted disk hillers on each side, clamped to a 45” wide frame. The disk hillers are more effective than furrowers or ridgers for “throwing” up the soil to make a raised bed, as the disks are rotating by ground contact as they are pulled through the soil. A drag chain in the rear pulls the “ridges” in and levels off the top of the bed. Makes beds up to 32” wide and and it will raise a bed 2 to 4 inches in a single pass; up to 6 inches in multiple passes. Narrower beds can be proportionally taller if desired. The disk hillers in this picture are adjusted for throwing soil inward to form a bed, but they are fully adjustable and can be turned “out” to flip soil outward, for hilling/ridging of rows too far apart to use a hiller/furrower, for example. The Drawbar on the Aldo Biagioli brand tools (shown below) attaches to tractor at PTO mounting, for a solid and sturdy mount. (Other brands of Ridger/Bedshapers on the market attach at the tractor “tow hitch” mounting, which, in our testing, has proven to be a poor place to mount such an implement, as it is very hard to control the “side-swing” of the tool… the “limiter” bolts supplied on the tow-hitch type of tool carrier simply have very little surface to brace against, and they deform easily. We have chosen NOT to carry these other brands, due to this problem.)

The Disk Hillers and Clamps can also be purchased separately for mounting on any of the tool-bar/cultivators we offer (see pricing below). If you want no compressed soil at all in your finished beds, our fixed Axle extensions (up to 16” total) or Adjustable axle extensions will put the wheels outside the finished bed. (See Tractor Accessories page) We actually built the prototype of this tool for Eliot Coleman, and we then communicated the design to Aldo Biagioli, who now builds them for us.
NOTE: This bedshaper will produce a raised bed which works with our 4-foot Plastic Mulch Layer (NOT the 3-foot mulch layer!) Wheel weights may be needed for this tool, depending on the size of the tractor operating it, and the soil type. Differential drive tractors only.
THIS TOOL REQUIRES THE DRAWBAR AND TOOL CARRIER SHOWN BELOW!! Angle of frame relative to tractor adjusted by T-handle crank on Tool Carrier…this allows “attack” angle of the tool to be adjusted. (NOTE: If purchasing multiple implements made by Aldo Biagioli, ONLY ONE Tool Carrier and Drawbar need to be purchased! Tool carrier and Drawbar change quickly from implement to implement with just one pin.)
