Push-only and reversible blades - snow removal, moving and grading dirt/gravel/sand.
We offer TWO STYLES of blades for our walk-behind tractors:
4 SIZES of Dozer / Snow blades (Shown at right), which are used with the tractor in front-PTO mode, and are therefore “push only” blades. (Best for snow removal; can be used for other uses as well.)
AND
A Dozer / Scraper style which has a reversible blade, allowing it to be used either in front of (dozer) or behind (scraper) the tractor (Best for dirt / gravel / sand.)
If your application is primarily moving / grading gravel, dirt, sand, etc., then the the Dozer / Scraper type is the best choice…the fact that you can use this blade in the rear of the tractor makes it more effective for these applications due to better control. ALSO, we now offer an option of BOX ENDS for this blade type (see below) that convert it to a “scraper box” for the ultimate in grading and leveling. We make these out of 3/8” thick steel with welded brackets, and the welds are strong enough to hold up to a tractor 5 times the size of a walk-behind tractor. If you purchase a dozer/scraper blade from us, we pre-drill the mounting holes for these Box Ends already.
This blade has 5 angle positions (center, 2 to left and 2 to right) to push material to one side if desired, and the entire blade can be inverted on its mounting frame, which is what allows the blade to be used as a push OR pull type. Blade thickness is 3/8” steel, far stronger than it needs to be for a walk-behind tractor, but the idea is that it has to be fairly heavy to counter-balance the engine. Even so, with the heaviest engine choices (particularly large diesels), an additional weight may have to be attached to the frame when using this blade in the front-mount “push” mode (because, in this position, the tractor handlebars are over the engine, thus making the engine side of the machine heavier). One size: 36” wide by 12” tall. -NOTE- For snow removal, there are some “negatives” to using this blade type: #1: the “stepped” blade shape (instead of a “Rounded” shape top-to-bottom) does not “roll” the snow as well, leading to more snow sticking to blade, and #2: It’s relatively small size, and #3: It does not have “ground-contour-following” (floating) feature to let the blade stay flat on the ground independent of the tractor axle.
For folks who have 22” or taller wheels on their tractor, we now offer another New Earth Tools Exclusive Accessory: a “Leveling Plate”, which vertically offsets the blade frame mounting from the implement mount of the tractor, and thus keeps the axis of the pivot perpendicular to the ground, even when larger-size wheels make the tractor ride “higher”. This assures that even when angled to one side, the bottom of the blade is still “flat” against the ground. The plate has 3 different offset positions to handle any wheel height. Fits the Dozer / Scraper blade only.
If SNOW REMOVAL is a large part what you have in mind for a blade, we have 4 different sizes of Snow/Dozer blades…One 36” “Economy” blade, and 3 sizes of “Deluxe” blades. The Deluxe blades have the following features:
NOTE: Our Deluxe blades are manufactured by Grillo, and fit the BCS machines no problem. (BCS also manufactures a 40” Snow blade, but the BCS blade lacks some of the features of the Grillo blades, and is more expensive…so we do not stock it.)
The Economy blade has features #2, 3, 6, 7, and has five angle positions that are changed manually at the blade (like the dozer/scraper blade at top).
All the snow/dozer blades are built with plenty enough strength (blade material 3/16” thick steel, with thicker replaceable cutting edges at bottom) so if you want to push gravel or dirt with them, it’s not a problem at all.
Be advised that the effectiveness of any of these blades on a walk-behind tractor is related purely to overall machine weight and therefore traction. The fact is: a walk-behind tractor is, by its design, a relatively light-weight and maneuverable machine. Even outfitted with wheel weights or tracks for additional traction, you are not going to turn this thing into a bulldozer that will push over trees or cut into sod/hard-packed soils…you are still dealing with a machine that doesn’t weigh all that much, and it is NOT going to push anything with a blade that’s heavier than the tractor is…at least, not all at once. We use one of these blades here at our shop for soil grading, snow removal, spreading gravel in our parking lot and gravel driveway maintenance—and it does a good job, as long as you are relatively patient. It SURE beats the heck out of doing those jobs by hand!! Certainly, though: The more you augment the traction of the tractor (by adding wheel weights, larger wheels, etc.), the more effective these tools are.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The dozer/snow blades will all accept Counter-weights, if needed, to help balance the blade properly against the engine on your walk-behind tractor. With the Dozer/Snow blades, we supply the hardware to attach weights (Standard 1” hole Barbell weight plates are most commonly used). We can supply these weights as well, OR, you can find them easily locally (new or used!), and not have to pay a bunch of extra money to ship heavy cast iron! Feel free to ask us if we recommend counter-balance weights for your particular engine type / application. NOTE: The Deluxe Dozer/Snow blades, which are manufactured by Grillo, come with a spare parts drawing showing an optional “weight bar” (item 126415 on the drawing)…these do NOT come with the blade, they are OPTIONAL - and are over $60 each for 22 lbs of weight! The “Barbell” weight option we mention above is MUCH more economical, so we don’t even stock those “factory” weight bars.
